History
British Government ne Rowlatt Act (1919) pass kiya, jiske through bina trial ke kisi bhi person ko arrest aur imprison kiya ja sakta tha. Iske against Punjab mein protests ho rahe the.
13 April 1919 ko Baisakhi ke din Jallianwala Bagh mein ek large gathering hui. British officer General Reginald Dyer apne soldiers ke saath wahan pahucha aur bina proper warning diye peaceful crowd par firing ka order de diya. Bagh ke exits limited the, isliye log easily escape nahi kar paaye. Official British figures ke according 379 people were killed, while Indian sources estimated a much higher death toll.
* Punjab mein British rule ke against anger bahut badh gaya. * Rabindranath Tagore ne protest ke roop mein apni Knighthood wapas kar di. * Mahatma Gandhi ka British rule ke against movement aur strong hua. * Is incident ne Non-Cooperation Movement (1920–22) ke background ko strengthen kiya.
Jallianwala Bagh incident ke baad Hunter Committee ne investigation ki, aur General Dyer ke actions ki criticism hui.
